I don't know. Three little words that are liberating.

The Light We Sometimes Miss

Even when the world feels grey,
when the sky seems heavy
and every color has faded into silence,
there is always something,
small and steady,
to be grateful for.

It might be the warmth
of a morning cup of tea,
the soft rhythm of your own breath,
or the quiet persistence of light
sneaking through the clouds,
the light we sometimes miss.

Gratitude doesn’t need grandeur,
it only asks that you notice.

Even in the dimmest moments,
something gentle remains,
a pulse of life reminding you
that the light is never truly gone,
just not always visible in this moment.

Sometimes,
our vision may be clouded.
We just need to look
a little closer
to see it
and trust the light is always near.

There are times in everyone’s life when we miss the light, when we can’t see the light through the gloom of our problems, troubles or funk that hangs over us.

Oh yes! I have been there too.

Many years ago, at my lowest point, I discovered the power of gratitude.

Two simple words, THANK YOU!

To understand how powerful gratitude was, I followed someone’s instructions to take some time and write down 100 things I was grateful for in my life.

When I started writing, I began with the obvious things: food, shelter, job, travel, income, family, friends, etc. As I continued to write, my list grew: farmers, truck drivers, nurses, farm workers, mechanics —all the people who worked to ensure I had food, gas, a home, water, and so on. Then I turned my attention inward to my body and became enamoured of the intricate workings within this shell of skin.

Taking the time to write all I was thankful for altered me in ways that continue to this day.

I take nothing for granted. When I feel down with a heaviness on my shoulders, I take a deep breath and look around to find one thing to be grateful for. I focus on that ray of light with a heartfelt “Thank You.”

In fact, gratitude pops up all the time as I’m going about my day. Randomly, with no thought, I begin to chant, “thank you, thank you, thank you” over and over again. This is an instant gloom buster.

Here are a few other things you can do when you feel a heavy cloud hanging over you.

🔅 When everything is feeling overwhelming, make your bed.
🔅 When you’re not feeling in love with your body, eat a nutritious meal.
🔅 When your head is full of thoughts, write them down.
🔅When your body is feeling tight and stressed, or you’re feeling anxious, take a walk.

Sometimes a simple action can help you reset. It can move the energy and change the mood. It can help you see something a little differently; it can feel like an exhale.

Give it a try and see how your mood and feelings shift.

Give me a shout and let me know what works for you.
